How to Craft Rustic Wall Hanging for Guest Rooms in 5 Easy Steps

Rustic wall hanging is perfect for hanging robes, pajamas, purses, and more. In this project, we focus on creating rustic wall hanging for clothes and accessories that’s as charming as it is functional. It makes a great addition to any guest bedroom, offering visitors a unique and creative way to hang their personal items.

1. Gather your materials

  • A piece of wood (our example uses a 24 x 8-inch piece, but you can adjust it according to your space and needs)
  • White chalky paint
  • Stencil
  • Coffee cup hooks
  • Wall hangers (two pieces)

2. Prepare the wood

Before we begin, it’s worth discussing the size of your wood. The size can be customized based on the design of your stencil. For instance, we used a stencil size of around 9 x 12 inches for this project. After selecting your wood piece, it’s time to dry brush it with white chalky paint. This gives the wood a weathered, rustic look that adds to the overall aesthetic.

3. Add the stencil design

Now, we move on to the more artistic portion of our project: the stenciling. In this step, we’re going to layer our stencils to add depth and interest to the design. Use a stencil with a vine design as the base of the sign to infuse a touch of nature into your piece.

Over the vine design, you can add extra stencils in a different color. For example, we used the text ‘Come as guests’ and ‘Leave as friends’ for a welcoming touch to the guest room.

4. Install the hooks

Coffee cup hooks are the perfect solution for hanging accessories on your wall hanger. You can find them in many hardware stores, Lowe’s included. One essential step before you start hammering away is to measure the placement of your hooks. This ensures an even look that’s as pleasing to the eye as it is practical.

5. Install the wall hanger

For hanging the finished piece, we used two wall hangers end-to-end. Depending on the size and weight of your project, you might need more or less, but two should work fine for a project of this size.
