Virginia retailer retiring, closing business after nearly 50 years


GALAX, Va. — Maurice Vaughan Furniture here is closing after 48 years in business, as its namesake owner is retiring.

As first reported by The Carroll (Va.) News, the store is beginning its going-out-of-business sale on Aug. 15 at its 50,000-square-foot showroom at 610 E. Stuart Drive in Galax. The building is available for leasing.

“I want to thank all of my devoted staff and customers for making my dream a reality,” Vaughan told The Carroll News. “I could not have done this without their loyalty and support throughout the last 48 years.”

Among its key brands are fellow Galax business Vaughan-Bassett Furniture as well as England, Restonic, Liberty, Bedtech and Kingsdown.
