BAYTOWN, Texas – Contemporary furniture supplier Sunpan has opened its first U.S. warehouse outside of Houston. First announced last March, the 200,000-square-foot space will provide American customers with greater access to inventory, speedier shipping and the option to pick up orders.
“As our customer base in the U.S. continues to grow rapidly, this new warehouse will play a critical role in our efforts to meet these increasing demands,” said Sundeep Bagga, Sunpan CEO. “We’re excited about the new opportunities this will bring for our business, and our ability to better service our customers.”
The new warehouse will more than double the company’s total warehousing footprint between Toronto and Houston, it said. Strategically located near the Port of Houston, Sunpan says it plans to leverage the warehouse to accelerate the pace of inbound and outbound shipments at the facility, which it says will result in more products being available in-stock and reduce wait times for customers.
Concurrent with the launch, Sunpan has unveiled a new online ordering system, which allows American customers to access live inventory and order from both the Toronto and Houston warehouses on the company’s U.S. website. Additionally, American customers can also request to pick up their orders from the Houston warehouse. The company says this gives clients the ability to take advantage of a broader selection of products, while managing orders based on their business needs.
Sunpan will employ around 50 people at the distribution facility, and has already hired 80% of its needed workforce. Announced in November, Sunpan hired Matthew Baker to lead operations for the warehouse. The company says Baker has more than two decades of management experience.
Sunpan revealed last month that it would relocate to a new and larger Las Vegas showroom in time for January’s market.
