At GJ Styles, new owner has big plans

The Manchester club chair, Mod server in distressed blue and Square natural pine coffee table nod to rustic, antique pieces.

HIGH POINT — At this week’s High Point Market, Doug Diemoz, owner of GJ Styles, will check one item off his “opportunities” list: domestic upholstery.

“We have many new SKUs in dining, seating, case goods and one-of-a-kind art in our showroom,” Diemoz said. “We are also introducing an upholstered sectional collection manufactured in High Point with Vision Manufacturing. Accent chairs, too. We will have 25 patterns with five colorways shipped within a couple weeks.

“Our new introductions strengthen and expand our offering,” he added. “I would like to offer my customers and their customers all the benefits of a custom upholstery line. I have been in this industry a long time, and our new sectional program is the culmination of all I’ve learned. It sits like a dream, and I’m excited to have folks try it out.”

After purchasing GJ Styles earlier this year, Diemoz began building his strategy for the whole home resource.

With his background in retail and senior leadership roles with Williams Sonoma/Pottery Barn, RH and Crate & Barrel, Diemoz assumed the top position at GJ Styles with an eye on growth through unique product offerings and exemplary customer service.

“My previous experience has given me a thorough education in all phases of the home industry,” Diemoz told Furniture Today. “I was fortunate to have worked at some amazing brands with hall of fame talent over the years, and I am excited to bring all my energy and experience to helping my customers achieve their goals.”

Founded in 1985 in Leominster, a small town in Herefordshire, England, GJ Styles moved to High Point in 1997 after founders Glyn and Jill Styles recognized a demand for antique reproductions in the U.S.

Diemoz purchased the company earlier this year, and today, GJ Styles shows upholstery, case goods and décor at its trade-only showroom located in High Point, which is open year-round and welcomes retailers and designers alike.

“GJ Styles is one of the originators of that classic European style furniture customers have come to love,” Diemoz said. “Our collection is timeless, and much of our lighting is one-of-a-kind. We have a coziness that is easeful, effortless and feels just right.”

GJ Styles does not have any minimum purchase requirements, according to company officials. All orders ship FOB from the distribution center located in High Point.

Diemoz explained that the company has category, sourcing, design and “remember us” opportunities, noting that one challenge will be to prioritize those opportunities while maintaining the quality and service the company is known for after 30 years in business.

“We are intently focused on design, quality, value and speed for our customers,” he said. “I want to reintroduce everyone to GJ Styles and deepen the assortment with our heritage in mind. Antique dealing is at the core of GJ’s DNA, so we plan to keep it interesting as we grow.”
