BDI cements itself as bedroom supplier as it launches second full collection

BDI launched the Kava bedroom at Market, its second bedroom collection. It’s shown here in a washed oak finish.

HIGH POINT – Entertainment and home office furniture specialist BDI has now cemented itself as a bedroom supplier as well, unveiling its second big collection in the category the recent High Point Market.

Kava is the first bedroom collection from the company since Linq, which marked its debut into the category in fall 2022.

“Linq is becoming a bigger percentage of our sales – roughly 13% and growing – and we hope to expand that further with Kava,” said Dave Adams, vice president of marketing.

Kava features an angular design, velvet drawer trays on the dresser, a dimmable light on the bed’s headboard, and a storage bench with the option to add either leather or fabric to the top. Like Linq, connectivity is a focus, with plentiful USB and power outlets. It’s offered in two finishes and has a “desert” vibe.

“Whereas Linq is modern and urban, Kava is country desert,” said Sol Garay, newly appointed president. “Linq has the tailored urban appeal, whereas Kava has coastal and even Japanese vibes.”

The collection is crafted from oak veneers – compared with Linq’s walnut – and doesn’t have Linq’s rounded corners. The 20-inch nightstand is also smaller than Linq’s 22 inches. For these reasons, Kava is priced a “little” lower than Linq. Retail estimates are $1,199 for the bench, $3,299 for a queen bed and $999 for the nightstand.

Other than Kava, BDI added a similar storage bench onto Linq as well as a removable upholstered backing for the headboard; a new solid wood, made-in-America top to its Serif laptop table; and three new finishes to its Elements credenza.

A new storage bench for Linq comes in either an upholstered or leather top.

Garay revealed a three-year growth plan. “BDI’s magic sauce consists of timeless designs, functionality and the ease of doing business with us,” she said. “I hope to leverage that to help us grow.”

She also highlighted the importance of storage furniture.

“We find that versatility is key with storage,” she said. “It helps to have pieces that can work throughout the home. People want to hide their items and the option to customize, whether it be customizable shelves or height adjustment. We will continue to bet on flexible storage to be a growth category.”
