Coaster goes big with sintered stone, unveils three new dining lines

SANTE FE SPRINGS, Calif. – Promotional to mid-priced furniture distributor Coaster will introduce three new dining collections this fall, all of which are in sintered stone.

Resembling quartz, granite and marble, sintered stone is a synthetic material with the texture of natural stone but without the porous surface. It’s resistant to scratches, stains, water, heat and UV light, says Coaster, and is easily cleaned with only mild soap and water.

Coaster cites the material’s durability, sustainability and health benefits as reasons for its focus.

“For one thing, we are seeing consumers gravitate towards sustainable manufacturing,” said Christie Siu, Coaster product manager. “Materials such as engineered stone or quartz typically use resins or other chemicals to bind materials together. Made of plastic and crude oil, such chemicals are harmful to the environment and unappealing to eco-conscious consumers. Sintered stone doesn’t use any of these chemical binders, and with its 100% mineral composition, it’s also recyclable.”

One collection – Acadia – features a table with a 12-millimeter sintered stone tabletop resembling white marble. The top is supported by a circular base with reeded details and a poplar wood veneer. It is then paired with barrel-back dining chairs with pearl white legs.

For the Carvell collection, 6.5 millimeters of sintered tone in a mirage white finish is laid over black tempered glass, which Coaster says creates a sleek edge profile. The top is held in place by a metal frame in a sandy black powder coat and supported by electroplated black nickel legs.

Finally, the Desden table sports a sintered stone top in a dark gray finish, which is supported by a metal frame and angular stainless steel legs.

At the recent Las Vegas Market, Coaster showed off four “super saver” bedroom groups.
