CPSC expands Walmart dresser recall to 30,000 items

A second series of dressers from Walmart has been recalled.

WASHINGTON – The Consumer Product Safety Commission has expanded its recall of a series of dressers sold on Walmart.com due to risk of tip-over and entrapment.

The expanded recall involves the 10-drawer Gikpal dresser, sold through Onme Direct, which is unstable if not anchored to the wall, CPSC said, adding that the dressers pose “serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in injuries or death to children.” The dressers violate performance and labeling requirements of the STURDY Act.

The CPSC says 28,590 dressers were sold on Walmart.com from September 2023 through January 2025 for around $80 each. They were made in China by Changzhouhongda Communication Equipment Co.

It specifically involves dressers with model number HI1318_13. The dressers were sold in rustic brown with black handles and black sides and back. They measure about 11.8 inches wide, 38.9 inches long and 39.4 inches tall, and weigh about 36 pounds. The model number “HI1318_13,” “Fabric Dresser” and “Made in China” are printed on the product packaging.

Consumers are being urged to stop using the dressers immediately if they aren’t anchored to a wall. Onme Direct and Walmart are contacting all known sellers directly for a refund.

This recall follows an initial recall in January, in which 800 12-drawer Gikpal dressers were recalled, also for instability. This recall involved model numbers HI1437_13, HI1437_14 and HI1437_02.
