Former HFA CEO joins Top 100 retailer’s board

MINNEAPOLIS — Mark Schumacher, former CEO of the Home Furnishings Assn., has joined the board of directors of Top 100 retailer Room & Board.

Schumacher posted an update on his LinkedIn profile, making the announcement that he’s taking on this role for the Minneapolis-based retailer, which recently became employee-owned.

“For years I have admired R&B’s commitment to its team, customers, sustainability and social responsibility,” Schumacher wrote. “Its recent designation as a B Corp, which means Room & Board meets high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability, is a testament to the culture it has built. Then in April the company transitioned into a 100% Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), giving the 1,100 employees a financial stake in the company.”

Schumacher said the new board of directors is tasked with providing strategic direction and financial oversight for the company during this time.

“I can’t express how honored and humbled I am to become part of the Room & Board team,” Schumacher said.

Schumacher was CEO of the HFA from 2020 until his tenure ended on May 31. He was succeeded by Shannon Williams.
