LEXINGTON, N.C. – A manufacturer of wood components for furniture and cabinets will permanently shut down its plant in Lexington, N.C., laying off 53 workers.
Olon Inds. filed a WARN notice this week, saying it intends to close the plant by May 30, with layoffs beginning March 28. Workers are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights.
Olon attributed the closure to “shifting demands in a competitive landscape, according to Woodworking Network. The company said it would provide assistance to employees during their transition.
The company was founded in 1981 in Ontario, Canada, and manufactures a wide range of woodworking components for furniture and cabinet manufacturers. It operates four North American manufacturing plants, which are located in Ontario, Indiana, Illinois and the Lexington location.
At 220,000 square feet, the Lexington plant is the company’s largest. The facility had been owned by Carolina Drawers, which Olon acquired in 2015. Under Olon, the facility has specialized in the manufacture of wood drawer components.
Olon is owned by Huron Capital, a Michigan-based private investment firm.
