MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Furniture First has a goal of twin $7,500 donations generated from its annual Symposium’s golf tournament.
The Middletown, Pa.-based national cooperative buying group serving full line independent retailers will hold the tournament at the Fazio Golf Course at the PGA National Resort in West Palm Beach, Fla., during its annual educational symposium.
“We’re excited to be able to support these important causes while allowing our members to enjoy a world class course at the PGA Resort,” said Furniture First CEO Andrew Kauffman. “Even though it was designed as a tribute to PGA champion Walter Hagen, it will still be enjoyable for those of us who play only occasionally.”
This charity tournament will benefit two charities: Ante for Autism and St. Jude Children’s Hospital, with a goal to donate at least $7,500 to each. Furniture First will sponsor a Par 3 Hole in One contest on two holes, with a chance to win $7,500 each. Top level sponsors for the event include TD Retail Card Services, Serta Simmons Bedding and Somnigroup International. Several of Furniture First’s Symposium sponsors are also sponsoring the tournament, with prizes at several of the holes.
Also in conjunction with the Symposium, three members will join the board of directors of the cooperative. These retailers replace three term-limited retailers who are set to retire from the board. Incoming board members are:
- George Carson of Marty Rae in Lexington, S.C. (member since March 2012)
- Ricky Christian of Esprit Decor Home Furnishings in West Chesapeake, Va. (member since June 2015)
- Erin Krueger of 5th & Main Furniture by Freed’s in Rapid City, S.D. (member since Sept. 2015)
“We’re proud of the fact that we are member-run,” Kauffman said. “We don’t have outside interests, like bankers or lawyers, on our board of directors. Our members feel that this is the best way to ensure that the actions of the board are aligned with the interests of the members of our cooperative.”
