Georgia furniture store closing after 112 years

MACON, Ga. — Union Furniture here is closing after more than a century in business, according to reports from TV station WMAZ.

The station notes that the store, which has been a fixture in Macon, Ga., since 1912, will begin its closing sale beginning April 24 and will remain until all inventory is gone.

Simon Becker is the third-generation owner of the store, which was founded by his grandfather, also Simon Becker. The elder Becker passed it to his sons, Buddy and David Becker.

“I spent 40 years here. My father and my uncle before me, my grandfather before that. But I don’t have anybody following me, so it was going to happen either now or sometime in the relatively in the near future anyway,” Becker told the TV station.
