GREENSBORO, N.C. — Shannon Lee, owner of Shannon Lee Furniture, is offering help for evacuees of Hurricane Helene.
Lee, who has specialized in selling High Point Market samples from warehouse stores in nearby Kernersville and High Point prior to relocating the business to Battleground Ave. in Greensboro, posted on Facebook that she and the business will do what they can as people try to get out of the way of the storm, which is expected to make landfall in northern Florida later Thursday before heading through Georgia and the Carolinas.
She said taking care of others and the community is just part of her M.O.
“For me, this is not an abnormal thing to do. I came out of homelessness at one point, so I’ve always had the mentality of doing what you can for your community when you can,” Lee told Furniture Today. “If you can help other people, you should. As corny as it sounds as a business owner, we should do what we can to help the community.”
The store is on an acre and a half lot and has a 4,000-square-foot pavilion on it that Lee is in the process of turning into a gathering place. But in the meantime, she said it can all easily accommodate campers and grills.
“It’s not quite ready, but we can certainly host people who need help,” she said, noting that Shannon Lee Furniture only moved to its new location a couple of months ago.
And while the business is new to Greensboro, Lee said her longtime customers know that it’s all about helping. She’s done natural disaster volunteer responses in the past, and without fail, customers have gone above and beyond to help.
“Any time I announce I’m going to do one of these trips, it’s fueled by my customers. They’ll ask about CashApp or PayPal (to donate). My customers are great,” she said.
