Italian design and Asian production: Contempo makes High Point debut

HIGH POINT – Contempo USA, the sister company of Italian furniture manufacturer Fabelli Italia, will make its debut at the spring High Point Market, introducing a line of fabric, leatherette and genuine leather beds. The beds are designed in Italy and manufactured in Asia.

Some beds had previously been sold under the Fabelli brand and made in Italy. Shifting to Asia has benefits, the company said.

“Beds from other manufacturers in Asia are all somewhat similar in design and very price point driven,” said Eugenio Ghiandoni, Contempo marketing manager. “We believe that our Italian designs, coupled with unsurpassed pricing, will allow us to quickly become an important player in the upholstered bed category.”

Contempo will be initially introducing 12 bed styles at its 2,000-square-foot showroom (International Home Furnishings Center, D-743). The company will supply independent retailers out of its warehouse in Miami Lakes, Fla., while offering direct container programs to majors and larger independent retailers. Five different styles can be mixed within a container.

The company said it was a two-year process to find a worthy partner factory in Asia.

“Contempo’s designs can be complicated, and Contempo USA wanted to make sure that it can offer its customers high quality beds in fabric, faux leather and even real leather,” said Ghiandoni. “This will allow the company to be able to supply not only to ‘majors’ but also to many higher end independent retailers.
