MILAN – A group of major Italian furniture manufacturers and woodworking companies will come together in a collective effort to make the industry green and create a circular economy.
Dubbed the Extended Producer Responsibility Consortium, the goal is to support the sector in a transition to be totally green: helping tackle challenges in waste reduction and in recycling end of life products. The consortium was conceived and promoted by leading furniture manufacturers and FederlegnoArredo, the Italian federation of woodworking and furniture industries.
Fifteen member companies are already on board, representing annual sales of 2 billion euros collectively.
“The consortium will allow us to accelerate the sustainability goals of the entire sector and to renew the strategies of the entire furniture supply chain, which aims not only at waste management, but also at activating a reuse system, which prolongs the life and valorization of products as much as possible,” said Claudio Feltrin, FederlegnoArredo president.
Salone Del Mobile Milano President Maria Porro is a member of the board of directors. Salone del Mobile is one of the largest furniture trade fairs in the world.
“This is a very important step that demonstrates how the sector, always ahead of its time, has decided to get involved, with an approach that starts from the bottom and seizing the opportunity to create an increasingly circular production model,” she said.
