GLASTONBURY, Conn. – Robert Richards, the owner and managing director of Mattress Concierge, a supplier of mattresses and sleep products for luxury and boutique hotels, died last month. He was 51.
Richards joined Mattress Concierge in 2017 as a sales representative. Within a year, Richards had made the company’s largest deal in history, and in 2020, he succeeded the company’s founder Jeff Rogers, upon his retirement.
Since taking the reins of the company, Richards has focused the business on the luxury independent and boutique hotel sector.
Born Jan. 24, 1973 in Columbus, Ohio, Richards graduated from Dickinson College and spent more than 20 years in the reinsurance and managed care industries.
Richards is survived by his daughter Weston Richards; son Greyson Richards; parents R.L. and Barbara Richards; a sister; a brother and a niece. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Robert and Donna Richards, and his maternal grandmother Florence Beck.
Mattress Concierge works closely with Gold Bond Mattress, and the independent mattress maker will manage the hospitality business on an interim basis.
“Rob was most proud of his children. He loved sharing in their accomplishments in sports, school and, overall, the people they were growing up to be,” said Skip Naboicheck, president of Gold Bond Mattress and a friend of Richards. “He also enjoyed spending time with his many groups of friends and hiking with his beloved dog Finn. Rob had a warm heart and a terrific sense of humor that endeared him to many.”
A private family service is planned, and the family asked in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of choice.
