Making your children’s window treatments can be both fun and easy. Generally, we don’t spend as much money decorating our children’s rooms because their interests can change from year to year. There are many do it yourself ideas that save money and come out looking great. You don’t need any special skills or a sewing machine because there are many no sew options for window treatments. Let’s look at some easy and creative window treatment ideas for kids.
Bedding as Fabric
Deco Wrap no sew cornices make decorating your children’s room a snap. You don’t need to buy expensive fabric and it’s easy to coordinate the windows and bedding with little effort. Often you can use bed sheets. All the material is just wrapped and tucked. The front slits of the foam cornice form can also give you an additional place for accent fabric. Extra material with sports motifs, for example, can be added and easily changed out at any time.
To make your own rod pocket curtain panels, open the sides of the wider top hem of a flat sheet. This can be used as your a rod pocket. After you open the sides, simply turn the edges under and affix with fabric glue. Then you are ready to shirr the panels onto the rod. An easier alternative is to just gather the panels and tuck them into the back slit of the Deco Wrap form. No need for the extra rod!
Wallpaper Border Accents
We have even used wallpaper border as an accent. Imagine the possibilities. You can really have fun creating your child’s window valances.
Craft Store Accessories
Accessories and all typed of trim can be used to embellish your cornice valance. Here we use a calico print, quilted material, ribbon trim, and a monogram patch. Just tuck it in or pin it on. Deco Wrap is like a gigantic pin cushion!
The great thing about going DIY is there is little commitment. It’s easy and inexpensive. When you want to change the room, perhaps from sports to super heroes, you can change the material. When you buy new bedding, get extra for the windows, add some fun accessories, and voila! You have created a new, fun themed room that will make any child happy.
