NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — The Sagrada chair by Mobello took the 2024 Edward Haimsohn Design Award during the Contemporary Design Group’s annual conference here.

The Sagrada chair was inspired by organic forms and architectural elements reminiscent of Antoni Gaudi’s Basilica de la Sagrada Familia. The piece is made from FSC-certified wood, ensuring that materials are responsibly harvested from well-managed forests.

For every Sagrada chair sold, a tree is planted, helping to offset the carbon impact of production and transportation.  Customers receive a tree certificate with a QR showing the precise location of the tree.

The award was accepted by Slobodan Todorovic and Mark Bannon of Mobello.

First runner up was a tie between the 546 Bbar by Skovby, designed by the Per Haansbaek; and Lily Media + Storage by Mobican, designed by Mathieu Selmay. Third runner up went to the Butterfly table by Copeland Furniture, designed by the Copeland Design Team. The finalists (listed in alphabetical order) were: Bure Seating by Eilersen, Elements Storage+Media by BDI, Good Wish Chair by Thayer Coggin, Jolene Dining Table by Huppé, Less Seating by LK Hjelle, Linq Office by BDI, Mindful Seating by Natuzzi, and Strata Credenza by Theodore Alexander.

A lookbook of all entries and a video of the complete presentation is available now on the Contemporary Design Group website.

The Edward Haimsohn Design award recognizes manufacturers producing outstanding and original furniture designs. A panel of anonymous judges, consisting of CDG retailer members, evaluated nominees on originality, creativity, consumer appeal, use of materials, functionality, and manufacturing execution. CDG Retailers were thoroughly impressed with the high quality of entries.

The award is named after CDG’s co-founder, Edward Haimsohn, who was well known for his strong eye for design and attention to quality. The members of Contemporary Design Group continue in the spirit of constructive collaboration, teamwork, and partnership between retailers and manufacturers in the contemporary home furnishings category.
