Casual furnishings players showcasing plenty of color

HIGH POINT — Outdoor furniture companies showing at the recent spring High Point Market were looking to capture the attention of furniture retailers and interior designers eager to step into the consumer-popular category.

When the pandemic struck in 2020, consumers turned to all things home, and updates to outdoor living spaces were among areas that many focused on during lockdowns. The trend toward outdoor living remains strong, and several mainline furniture companies, including Hooker Furnishings and Universal Furniture, have jumped into the segment.

According to a survey conducted last year by the International Casual Furnishings Assn., consumers are spending more time outdoors at home than they did in the prior year. On average, consumers spend nine hours a week outdoors compared with seven hours a week reported in the prior year.
