Harounian fuels category momentum by maximizing

NEW YORK – With more than seven years of designing and sourcing machine-made area rugs under its belt, Harounian Rugs International has steadily grown the category to more than a quarter of its total business.

At the New York Home Fashions Market, the family-owned-and-operated company built on that sales momentum with the addition of several new collections from Turkey that target accounts’ individual needs, both for private-label and white-label programs.

“Our expectation is that the machine-made rug category is going to experience a healthy uptick in sales starting this fall, now that people are getting back to their routines after the slow summer,” explained Lee Harounian, president.

Headlining the introductions are two vintage-inspired collections: Antique, made of 100% polyester and featuring updated Tabriz patterns; and Amsterdam, made of a blend of cotton and polyester and featuring new interpretations of Persian Heriz and Serapi designs.

In line with its company policy, HRI strictly reserves machine-made rugs for brick-and-mortar retailers as well as designers.

“We do not sell any of our products to e-commerce retailers because we want to protect our customers,” he said. “The only online retailing we work with are the websites of our brick-and-mortar retail partners.”

Other new machine-made collections launched this season include:

  • Remix, a contemporary grouping made of polyester and in a flat-weave construction;
  • Venice, a modern design grouping crafted in a high-low construction;
  • Regal, a grouping of updated Persian patterns relayed in pastel colorways;
  • An array of new printed designs;
  • Several new indoor and outdoor styles.

Available sizes for HRI’s machine-mades range from 4-by-6 to 9-by-12.

HRI’s showroom is located at 104 W. 29th St., off Sixth Avenue. The company will be showing next month at High Point Market in space D-431 of the International Home Furnishings Center.
