Star Furniture picks veteran retail exec as new president

HOUSTON — Star Furniture, part of Top 100 Berkshire Hathaway’s furniture division, has appointed Richard Jones as its president.

In this role, Jones will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the company, including stores, merchandising, marketing, warehouse operations and customer service. He reports to CEO Jeff Cohen.

“Richard is a great fit for the Star Furniture team. His retail acumen, leadership skills and forward-thinking attitude will accelerate the delivery of our strategic goals,” Cohen said.

Prior to joining Star Furniture, Jones served as senior director of operations for Gap, NA. His collaborative leadership style helped the retail giant accomplish major gains in productivity, staffing and retention.

Jones is a retail veteran who started his career with a small electronics company in Colorado, then moved to be a district team leader with Target. From there, he worked at Kohl’s for nearly a decade, achieving the role of vice president/district manager.

“I am honored and excited to lead our talented team and to build upon Star Furniture’s 100-plus-year legacy,” said Jones. “With Star’s commitment to great product, high-performing teams and a superior customer experience, we will chart a path for continued growth while maintaining our position as a driving force in our industry.”

Jones will accompany the Star merchandising team to this month’s High Point Market.
