AUBURN, Maine – The recently acquired high-end case good specialist Thos. Moser has added wood options to its Bates collection, citing wood furniture’s “comeback” in design trends this coming year.

The company unveiled its Bates collection last October. The handmade, domestically produced collection features a bed and side table meant to honor the history of craftsmanship in Maine. The bed pays homage to the bobbin-and-spool beds of the early 1800s and is shown with the Marth Washington bedspread, crafted by the Maine-based Bates Mill Co.

It launched with cherry wood in October, and it now includes walnut as an option.

“Cherry wood is known for its strength and patina as it ages and remains a popular wood finish, with walnut offering a warmer rich toned-wood,” the company said. “These handcrafted and sustainably made designs honor the rich heritage of Maine manufacturing, and the heirloom quality and craftsmanship that can only be achieved by something made by hand.”

The bed sells for between $5,700 and just over $10,000. It’s crafted from a solid block of wood and joined with an interlocking mortise and tenon joint.

A matching side table, selling for between $2,375 and $3,100, features a beveled top and a rounded radius on each corner.
