NEW YORK CITY — Two bespoke French brands, Tréca Paris and Maison Janneau, have expanded their presence in the U.S., having opened in Maison Bowery on the Bowery in New York.

Bespoke bed brand Tréca Paris offers a personalized bed, including a sleeping system (mattress topper, mattress and bed base) and upholstered headboard and frame. Everything is handcrafted in France; the company manufactures its own springs to assure quality, said Clément Dartois, managing director, North America.

For the upholstery, it works with four fabric companies: long-time partner Pierre Frey, Schumacher, Lesage, which does tweed for Chanel, and Loro Piana. Leather is also available, and the company can also work with COM.

Bed options include 11 sleeping systems and 27 headboards/frames. The beds range from about $15,000 to $150,000, with the average one priced around $35,000-$40,000, Dartois said.

The company had to adjust its sizing for the U.S. market – the king-sized mattress in France is smaller than one in the U.S., for example – but is now ready for the U.S., he said. It even made a double king size bed for one New York client.

Upcoming initiatives include a collaboration with Chanel, Dartois said, as well as an event during New York Design Week, for which a French designer is creating a round bed as a focal point. In addition, this fall it plans to open its first retail store in New York, with others to come.

“You don’t buy a mattress, you buy a Tréca,” said Dartois.

Also in the showroom is Maison Bowery, which showcases French luxury and craftsmanship. Besides the two new brands, it also includes Hervé Baume, an outdoor furniture line. The companies are hosting a launch party on Thursday, March 27.

A French door and window company, Maison Janneau offers bespoke product for people who want something different. “We want to bring French elegance and unique product to the U.S. market,” said Marc Fauchreau, CEO.

The majority of the windows in the U.S. are double hung, but Maison Janneau makes French windows, which open inward, similar to what one might see in an apartment in Paris, he said. “We are a niche company.”

The company keeps no inventory, he said, as each item is made to order and takes about six months to make and deliver. It first entered the U.S. market two years ago, Fauchreau said, and it has central headquarters in Austin, Texas, to address its initial top markets: California, Texas and New York.
