CLEVELAND — Paint company Valspar typically selects 12 Colors of the Year for the upcoming calendar, but this year it narrowed it down to one hue for 2024: Renew Blue.
It is a balanced blue with a touch of grayed sea-green that focuses on wellness and comfort for consumers looking for consistency and balance in their lives, the company said. It is said to be inspired by “fleeting elements” like fog, mist, clouds and glacier lakes.
“Blue is a classic shade that has become the new neutral for today’s home and can be mixed and matched to fit a variety of design styles and applications,” said Sue Kim, director of color marketing for Valspar.
Having one Color of the Year instead of 12 is the paint company’s more simplified approach to color inspiration, Kim said.
Valspar paint, which is a Sherwin-Williams brand, is available exclusively at Lowe’s.
Earlier this week, HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams selected Persimmon as its Color of the Year, while its Renewed Comfort Color Collection includes shades that embody tranquility and comfort. Behr, meanwhile, selected a very dark shade, Cracked Pepper, as its Color of the Year, for its confidence and sophistication.
