FAIRFIELD, N.J. – Through a new FR technology, Precision Textiles  and Culp Home Fashions  are looking to streamline mattress manufacturing with a new yarn that can be woven into circular knit ticking to create an all-in-one FR cover for beds.

Precision Textiles’ new, patented IQ FR Inlay yarn is chemical free and flame resistant to meet U.S. flammability standards for mattresses. Woven into the fabric, IQ FR Inlay eliminates the need for a secondary FR layer like a sock or lamination helping manufacturers improve efficiency and save time.

“We partnered with Culp Home Fashions to rigorously test and commercialize the IQ FR Inlay across various ticking designs and mattress configurations, all of which meet or exceed CFR 1633 safety standards,” said Scott Tesser, CEO of Precision Textiles. “Our customers are increasingly looking for innovative, all-in-one FR solutions, and this product delivers on that demand while maintaining superior fabric aesthetics and functionality. It’s a game-changer for the bedding industry.”

Precision Textiles has been in the midst of a wave of innovation of late with new, enhanced FR solutions for the industry that are fiberglass free and contain more natural fibers than traditionally seen in the mattress category.

Culp is knitting the yarn into fabrics for smooth-top mattresses, including all-foam builds or zippered covers, said Tommy Bruno, president of Culp Home Fashions. The technology isn’t applicable to quilted covers.

Because the yarn is woven into the fabric, the cover offers a more natural feel than traditional FR solutions that can impact the feel of a finished mattress, Bruno said.

The collaboration on IQ FR Inlay with Culp has been in the making for about a year, building on the two companies’ long-standing partnership. Bruno said being able to bring the new product to the bedding community is exciting.

Bruno said Culp is engaging with mattress manufacturers to discuss fabric designs and styles to meet their needs using the new FR product, but he expects producers to start incorporating fabrics with IQ FR Inlay by the second half of the year.

“We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with Precision Textiles on what we believe is transformative technology for the bedding industry,” Bruno said. “Our team at Culp continues to prioritize product development and innovation and we could not be more excited to leverage our global production platform to offer customers new products incorporating Precision Textiles patented IQ FR Inlay technology.”
