Amazon calls Black Friday/Cyber Monday event ‘record breaking’

SEATTLE — Amazon said its extended Black Friday and Cyber Monday holiday shopping event, which ran Nov. 17-27, was its biggest ever, record breaking compared with the same period ending on Cyber Monday in previous years.

The e-commerce giant reported that its customers around the world purchased more than 1 billion items. Amazon also announced it will be dropping new deals every day through Dec. 24.

“We kicked off the holiday season with Prime Big Deal Days in October and extended our Black Friday and Cyber Monday holiday shopping event to 11 days to accommodate even more deals over more days to make shopping more convenient for customers,” said Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores.

In the U.S., customers ordered more than 500 million items from independent sellers, most of which are small and medium-sized businesses, during Black Friday and Cyber Monday holiday shopping.

The retailer also noted that customers purchase more Climate Pledge Friendly items than any previous Black Friday and Cyber Monday event.

Merchants that participated in promotional activities experienced overall more than a 300% increase in units purchase through Buy With Prime vs. the daily average for October 2023, Amazon reported.
