This easy cheeseburger sliders recipe is perfect for game day, but they also make a great make ahead meal for busy weeknights. Everyone goes crazy for these mini burgers oozing with melty cheese!
You can easily double or triple the recipe, so they are a great way to feed a hungry crowd. You can assemble the day before your party, refrigerate, and then bake when you are ready. So easy!
An easier way to make sliders
The first time I attempted these sliders, I made little patties and spread sauce on each of the buns. Although they were tasty, it was a bit time consuming. So I set out to find a way to simplify the recipe.
I’m not a big fan of forming patties, so I opted to brown the meat with onions and seasonings. Adding the burger sauce to the ground beef mixture not only saved time, it made the meat so flavorful!
I also experimented a few times with the glaze on top of the sliders. Now it has the perfect blend of sweet and savory flavor, and makes these sliders out of this world delicious!
CHEESEBURGER SLIDERS RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS
- TOAST BUNS (OPTIONAL) – After cutting the buns in half with a serrated knife, spread each side with softened butter. Arrange on a cookie sheet and broil until light golden brown.
- MEAT – Cook beef and diced onion over medium high heat in a large skillet until meat is brown. Drain off excess fat. Add the garlic powder, salt, pepper, worcestershire, mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard; heat through.
- ASSEMBLE – Arrange bottom buns in a 9×13″ pan. Divide the ground beef mixture between the buns. Sprinkle with chopped pickles. Top with slices of cheese. Add the tops of the buns.
- GLAZE – Melt the butter in a small bowl. Whisk in the salt, brown sugar, and worcestershire sauce. Brush over the top of the rolls.
Sprinkle each with sesame seeds. - BAKE – Bake sliders in an oven that has been preheated to 350 degrees until the cheese melts, about 10-15 minutes.
If you have any leftover sliders, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
To reheat them, I like to wrap them in aluminum foil and place them in the oven. Turn the heat to 300 degrees. When the oven is preheated, they should be warm.
If you prefer, you can heat individual sliders in the microwave for 30-60 seconds.
How to prep sliders ahead of time
You can completely assemble the sliders and prepare the glaze up to a day in advance. After adding the top buns, cover the pan with foil and place them in the refrigerator.
When ready to bake, take the sliders and glaze out of the refrigerator. Melt the glaze and brush it over the tops of the buns. Preheat your oven to 350°.
Place the foil back on the pan and bake the sliders for about 15 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese melts.
PRO TIPS:
- Toasting the buns first does take a few extra minutes, but it not only adds great flavor, it helps prevent the sliders from getting soggy inside.
- Bake the sliders uncovered so the buns get nice and toasty.
CHEESEBURGER SLIDERS RECIPE VARIATIONS:
- Substitute American cheese slices, or any type of cheese you like for the cheddar cheese.
- You can’t go wrong with adding some crispy bacon slices!
- Use slider buns, pretzel rolls, or even homemade dinner rolls instead of the Hawaiian buns.
- You can use poppy seeds instead of sesame seeds, or just omit them.
