Part sweet, part tangy, this copycat Briannas Poppy Seed Dressing recipe goes well with so many different types of salad! And you can whip it up in about five minutes.
I love it with my brussel sprout salad, but it is just as tasty with a fresh spinach salad. When I need a really quick salad, I toss it with bagged coleslaw mix. Delicious!
I got the recipe for this creamy poppy seed dressing from my sister-in-law several years ago, and it’s been a staple at my house ever since.
HOMEMADE POPPYSEED DRESSING FOR THE WIN!
I’m a sucker for homemade salad dressings. They are so much more tasty than the ones you buy on the shelf at the grocery store, and can elevate even the most simple salad to a great salad.
One of the reasons they taste so much better is that you can use high quality ingredients with no fillers.
What are the ingredients in BRIANNAS poppy seed dressing?
The ingredients listed on the Briannas salad dressing bottle are: canola oil, cane sugar, water, white onions, white vinegar, salt, apple cider vinegar, poppy seeds, mustard flour, xanthan gum, and mixed tocopherols.
This recipe uses mayo instead of canola oil, milk instead of water, and omits the last two ingredients.
How to Make The Best Creamy Poppyseed Dressing
Ingredients needed:
- mayonnaise – This makes the dressing nice and creamy. Use a high-quality brand for the best flavor and texture. I like Best Foods/Helmans.
- granulated sugar – Adds sweetness to the salad dressing.
- apple cider vinegar – Gives the dressing that signature tangy flavor.
- milk – Makes the dressing even more creamy, and also thins it out so it is easier to pour. For a dairy free version, use almond milk.
- onion powder – Adds the flavor of fresh onions while keeping the dressing nice and smooth.
- salt – I like to use a hearty pinch; it is a great flavor enhancer.
- dry mustard – You only need a little bit, but it does add a depth of flavor.
- poppy seeds – Add more or less according to your taste. I like to store mine in the freezer so they don’t turn rancid.
Instructions:
- Whisk together the mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, milk, onion powder, salt, dry mustard, and poppy seeds until smooth.
- Chill the dressing for at least 20 minutes to allow the flavors to blend. I like to keep it in a small mason jar or this dressing shaker.
You can store the dressing in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.
