Hudson’s holiday sale ‘checked all the retail boxes’

SANFORD, Fla. — Top 100 retailer Hudson’s Furniture‘s sale continued a solid run of business this year.

“I think it’s interesting that most of the people and businesses we know, furniture and non-furniture, are having a successful year in spite of all the noise you hear,” CEO told Furniture Today.

While the sale — which started the week before Memorial Day weekend and will run into this weekend — has lived up to expectations, Hudson said the holiday weekend had good sales and good traffic.

“It checked all the retail boxes,” Hudson said.

To help draw consumers in, Hudson’s offered financing with up to three years interest-free as well as a product promotion that focused on bedding.

“We had a big bedding event. That was one of our key draws,” Hudson said. “We always do our big discounting and then the mattress event with all the manufacturers participating. Mattress sales have been good and that’s what we were using as our draw.”

Additionally, the motion category continued to be a key performer for Hudson’s.

And as the Memorial Day sale gives way to the summer months, Hudson said he feels good about how business will keep playing out this year.

“I think this is a good sign. I’m bullish for the rest of the year,” he said. “Every day is less and less tumultuous with the ‘T-word,’ and consumer behavior tends to be strong right now. I anticipate it getting stronger.”
