Meghan Markle’s licensing strategy? More questions than answers at this point

NEW YORK – The licensing world is buzzing about array of trademark applications filed by the Dutchess of Sussex.

The series of applications to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office casts a wide net, according to People magazine’s review of Megan Markle’s potential licensing categories.

If the licensing program gets off the ground, it will do so under Meghan Markle’s new brand: American Riviera Orchard. The brand launched online on March 14 with a static landing page that invites visitors to sign up for email alerts. A similar page has been set up on Instagram.

The whole home approach includes furniture, wallpaper, pillows, candles, picture frames, live flower arrangements, gardening items, gift wrap, aromatherapy items, food, pet wares from leashes to dog beds, skin care and cosmetics, jewelry, stationery, cookbooks and food.

“Well-placed sources at other lifestyle brands told Page Six that American Riviera Orchard is all the gossip on industry What’sApp groups around Los Angeles,” the New York Post reported. “Tellingly, however, they have not yet heard anything about Markle hiring buyers or a sourcing team.”

Markle is “on the hunt” for a CEO to manage the brand, per the Express UK.

“But there still remain vital questions surrounding the brand: Just who is investing in it, who is working on it — and who is manufacturing the goods,” the New York Post noted.
